A marathon meeting of the Llano Commissioners Court on Monday was highlighted by the court’s decision to re-open the Llano County Park, with its new boat ramp, effective Tuesday, March 9. Lake levels are up considerably since the concrete was poured last summer; even though it is still six feet below normal for this time of year, the lake is high enough to allow full use of the facility.
The Llano Lady Jackets didn’t overwhelm their talented opponents, March 6, at the Fredericksburg Relays, but they emerged from the Long Day’s Journey into Night with some prime prizes to help them through spring break.

The Llano baseball Yellow Jackets hit the ball well, got two superb pitching performances, and overcame one of their longest bus rides of the season to finish second in the Snyder tournament. The host school, Class 3A champions in 2008, was one of ten squads in the gathering in west Texas.

The day began in chilly conditions with no sun in view. It ended the same way with darkness making sure there’d be no sunshine.
Some nine hours passed, but no one passed Marcos Vallejo, who racked up his second straight double-gold performance. He captured the 3200-meter race, just after breakfast, March 6 in Fredericksburg, and after dinner that night, he walloped another talented field to claim the 1600 meters.

They were Llano’s Big Three all season, and the 8-3A coaches thought they were standouts, also. Allie Rostron was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Ashley Schroeder won a place on the All-District team. Olivia Hutto was a second-team selection.

It’s nice when several guys are honored from your team in the All-District selections, but it’s real nice when all will return for another season.
Matthew Ratliff has been named second-team, All-District, 8-3A, while Aaron Francis and Sterling Jameson earned honorable mention. Only six players made the first squad, and five emerged from champion Liberty Hill and runner-up Burnet.
